Our Activities
Eastwood Dementia Project
New clients can be reticent to take part, however this generally changes quite quickly and the sense of belonging which comes from being part of a non-threatening group well outweighs their initial uncertainty. Staff will always try to offer as much choice as possible, quizzes, sing-songs, books, reminiscence equipment, concerts, daily newspaper, crafts, etc. Clients can also assist staff with light gardening, weather permitting, if they wish or enjoy a game of bowls or croquet, snooker, darts, group ball games on the clients patio area these activities can take place in the large room in the stables during the winter months.
As well as the daily (unprompted) sings songs we have regular concerts at the centre with a professional performer will entertain clients and encourage participation in sing-songs as this is extremely stimulating and is proven to enhance mood particularly for people with dementia. Dancing of course will improve circulation as well as helping to relieve stress.
We will always encourage clients to be as independent as possible however, if the clients’ choices pose a risk we will ensure staff is on hand to reduce potential harm.
We also have a supply of musical instruments, guitar, piano/organ for clients to play and enjoy.
Every client attending our centre is treated as an individual and all personal special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries never go unrecognised.
